Ideas for Research Projects

Two goals for June's workshop were:
  1. Networking with other researchers.
  2. Developing at least one research project (preferably in collaboration with a matrilineal culture) that could be submitted to SSHRC for this fall (Oct 2013).  The Notice to Submit is due August 15.
Suggestions, ideas and comments for proposed research are welcome and encouraged!

  1. One project is to find out what research has been done to date - this involves identifying the different matrilineal societies and any research done on them, as well as identifying those researchers specializing on the topic.

  2. Came across an article on India Times - the Kerala Historical Society, and historian M.G.S. Narayanan, are revisiting India's matrilineal systems for insights that could stop the abuse of women in India: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/kochi/Matriliny-answer-to-abuse-of-women/articleshow/19732521.cms.

An idea for a research project or research collaboration?

    1. I believe this could be articulated with a pilot project with perhaps a women centre, as to rediscover women's matrimoine, identity, strength, what is coming from our mothers, how it has been transmitted or is lost... where we are going and how fragile women can become with the fading of this matrimoine; how this affect their relationships with each other, and with men. Workshops could be held with women rediscovering their matrilineal genealogy, the untold stories of their lines of women, and understand the patterns of violence, victimization, failures in their lives related to these untold and unseen stories. What is the status of their matrimoine; where do they fil in it, how can they rebuild their imaginary and potential.
